| Arnold Böcklin (1827-1901), « après avoir suivi le gymnase classique à Bâle et les cours de dessin de Ludwig Adam Kelterborn, B. s'inscrivit à l'académie des beaux-arts de Düsseldorf (1845-1847) où il fut l'élève du paysagiste Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. Il voyagea à Anvers et Bruxelles, dans le Jura et les Alpes, et fut témoin de la révolution de février 1848 à Paris. Déménageant souvent, il vécut entre autres à Rome (1850-1857, 1862-1866), à Munich (1858/1859, 1871-1874), à Weimar (1860-1862), à Bâle (1866-1871), à Florence (1874-1885, 1893-1895), à Zurich (1885-1893) » (DHS). |
